Climate change is an eminent threat and it needs to be treated as such. It is not going anywhere unless people all around the world start to take action.

In the UK, you can start by supporting a Prince-inspired solar fundraiser.

In 2017’s UK Climate Change Risk Assessment Evidence Report, the Committee of Climate Change stated that:

Global temperatures have increased to 0.85°C since 1880.

As consequence of this, in the UK, the average temperatures have increased year by year and more extreme weather events have been reported.

Sea levels globally and around the UK have risen by 15 to 20 centimeters since 1900.

Even with the Paris Agreement in place (where 195 countries vouched to reduce greenhouse gases emissions), there’s still an uncertain delicacy of the environment to greenhouse gases, which means that there is still a small chance of 4°C or more of warming by 2100.

Climate Change: be part of the new power generation

Daniel Jones from charity 10:10 says ‘Greater climate awareness is crucial, but we also need to show people that the solutions are out there. It’s much more empowering to see the positive, practical action that’s already happening, and how we can be part of it’.

Charity 10:10 focus on community level projects that tackle climate change. Their new campaign was created to honour Prince while raising money for solar panels to communities.

The charity shared the new campaign whilst unveiling a brand new Prince mural in the gates of the Electric Ballroom, in the heart of Camden.

10:10 announced that they’ll be fundraising for six new solar panels from the anniversary of Prince’s death on the 21st April until his birthday on the 7th June. ‘After he died we learnt Prince had secretly donated solar panels to communities in California. His idea, that green tech should be for everyone, is powerful and inspiring. That’s why we’re honouring his legacy by crowdfunding panels for six groups working on other issues he cared about. In the process we can help spread this amazing idea’.

You can start doing your part by simply donating today or also sponsoring the 24 Hour Purple Ping Pong-a-thon!

What better way to honour Prince than to add his favourite sport to the fundraising?

The Brighton Table Tennis Club will be attempting to play ping pong for a whole day to raise money for solar panels.

Geography teacher, Margaret Hunter says: ‘I believe that in the UK we have the ability to educate future generations to consider not only the consequences for the UK itself but also to think globally about the far more urgent and devastating effects of climate change on other parts of the world’.
